Understanding user interaction

USABILITY TESTING
The Optimise Team, within the broader Department of Customer Service, is responsible for the creation and governance of components to be used across the entire NSW Gov platform.

Following the development of three key components, we conducted usability testing to understand how users interact with each. From our findings we provided the broader team with valuable insights regarding the components' usability, as well as recommendations for areas of improvement.

Homepage Takeover template

To be used on the nsw.gov.au homepage during special events. (Note: the template is not pictured as it is not a live component yet). We are testing to understand:

  • The usability of the template’s CTA and link list
  • Recognisability of the NSW Gov homepage despite the takeover
  • Whether users are able to complete their usual tasks despite the takeover

Lightbox Gallery

To be used across a number of NSW Gov platforms, and currently being used on Births, Deaths and Marriages. We are testing to understand:

  • User expectations of the gallery
  • Usability of the lightbox
  • User expectations regarding the information provided

Side scrolling cards

These have been introduced on the nsw.gov.au homepage and will be utilised by a number of NSW Gov platforms. We are testing to understand:

  • How users interact with the component
  • Abandonment rate
  • User perception of the side scrolling cards
Due to the NDA agreement I have with DCS, I'm unable to disclose the results of our usability testing online. If you'd like to learn more about our findings, I'm happy to discuss in more detail during an interview.
